Behind KX1000

The Role of Psychoacoustics

DESIGN POSITION

KX1000 is designed around what producers can perceive: arrival, weight, size, brightness, continuity and groove.

The principles behind the decision

  1. 01. Punch depends on contrast over time, not peak level alone.
  2. 02. Harmonics can preserve identity when deep bass is inaudible.
  3. 03. Duration changes perceived strength and rhythmic precision.
  4. 04. Masking can make a well-designed kick fail in context.

A practical way to hear it

Turn monitoring down until the deepest bass is less obvious. If the rhythm remains clear, the kick has enough audible identity above the sub region. Then return to normal level and check that this clarity is not harshness.

The purpose of this exercise is not to reach a prescribed setting. It is to make the relationship audible enough that the producer can choose deliberately.

Boundary and evidence

Perception varies with listener, room, level and playback system. Psychoacoustic principles guide tests; they do not predict a single universal setting.

Product philosophy is presented as design reasoning. Technical and perceptual claims should be checked against the linked Kickopedia methodology and subject guides.

From knowledge to practice

KX1000 is an instrument, not a conversation.

It turns broad musical choices into an editable kick and groove, then gets out of the way.
