Why it works
The rhythm creates the role.
The connector after each anchor must be perceptually smaller. Equal-level hits turn the gallop into undifferentiated low-frequency density.
Practical workflow
- Start with the reviewed baseline at 150 BPM and straight timing.
- Identify the structural anchors before changing velocity or adding supporting hits.
- Ghost connectors often need less sub and shorter decay than the main kick, particularly when distortion or rumble fills the gaps.
- Compare the three variations inside a representative arrangement at matched loudness.
- Keep only the version whose empty steps, accents and tail length improve the full groove.
