Hear an onset that is strongly softened beside one that is preserved. Learn how fast gain reduction can reduce kick definition even when loudness is matched.
Attack controls how quickly gain reduction reaches the kick onset. Strong, fast onset reduction can soften the initial hit. Allowing more onset to pass preserves definition and often preserves perceived punch.
Play Condition A, then Condition B. The files are matched to the same full file RMS. Only the stated variable changes.

More of the initial onset passes before the envelope changes. Listen for clearer arrival and contrast.
Only the onset envelope changes. The source layers, pattern, duration and full file RMS remain controlled.
The preserved onset is easier to locate and produces more attack to body contrast. This does not mean slow attack is always better. A deliberately soft kick may benefit from stronger onset control.
Shape Transient, Punch and Body until the unprocessed source already points toward the required envelope. Use compression afterward for a defined dynamic problem rather than as a compulsory step.
This is a controlled envelope demonstration using one KX1000 source kick. It isolates strong onset reduction from onset preservation. It is not an emulation of a named compressor or a universal attack time recommendation. Both files are matched to the same full file RMS.
