Kickopedia audio standards
The listener should hear the teaching point, not an editing artifact, a loudness advantage or an unclear sample license.
Every sound has a documented origin.
- Primary source
- Original KX1000 Transient, Body and Sub WAV files supplied by Dystant Sounds.
- Generated material
- Simple reference tones created specifically for a named Kickopedia experiment.
- Third party samples
- Not permitted in the V15 Proof Layer.
- Rights record
- Source and output SHA 256 hashes are stored in the release provenance register.
No accidental clicks, pops or clipping.
- Boundaries
- The first and final sample are zero. Smooth fades protect edited tails and test tone boundaries.
- Peak safety
- Every master remains below minus 1 dBFS sample peak.
- DC offset
- Every master must remain within the V15 tolerance before publication.
- Playback
- Only one comparison file plays at a time, which prevents overlapping conditions.
The difference must be obvious and fair.
- First pass
- The initial contrast is intentionally clear enough to identify without specialist equipment.
- One variable
- Every page names exactly what changes and what remains controlled.
- Level matching
- Paired files share the same full file RMS within 0.25 dB.
- Context
- Where the lesson depends on another sound, the comparison includes a controlled musical context.
- Written access
- The direct answer, method, result and listening checklist remain useful when audio cannot be played.
Lossless masters remain source honest.
The KX1000 source files are mono PCM WAV at 16 bit and 44.1 kHz. V15 masters retain that native format rather than adding empty bit depth. Optimized Opus files are supplied for web playback, with the WAV master as a browser fallback.
