    Release controls do not behave identically across compressors. Detector design, ratio, threshold, programme material and release curves change the actual gain-reduction envelope. Use the calculated range to audition, then watch and listen for full recovery.

    Release should solve a recovery problem

    Tempo-syncing release is useful because it relates gain reduction to the next rhythmic event. It does not create one mathematically perfect setting. A transparent bass handoff, a balanced club groove and an obvious pumping effect use different parts of the available interval.

    The calculator preserves a margin before the next kick so the bass can return deliberately. A long kick tail can shift the starting range, but the final setting still depends on the compressor’s curve and the amount of gain reduction.

    Is there one perfect sidechain release time for a BPM?

    No. Tempo provides the event spacing, but compressor topology, detector behaviour, threshold, depth, kick duration and bass envelope all change the audible recovery.

    Should release finish before the next kick?

    Usually the gain reduction should recover deliberately before the next important event unless continuous pumping is the musical goal.

    Why include kick-tail duration?

    A longer low-frequency kick may need a different ducking shape from a short click-led kick. Tail duration provides useful context, but it does not determine release by itself.

    Can sidechain fix the wrong kick and bass combination?

    It can create time separation, but it cannot make every source relationship musical. Source choice, register, pattern and low-end ownership should be checked first.
